Developed at AIRTEC HQ in the UK, we are excited to introduce our Stage 3 Intercooler Kit for the Toyota Yaris GR, designed for owners seeking ultimate cooling efficiency and performance for track and fast road use.

The Challenge

Our earlier Stage 1 intercooler was developed to cater to tuned Yaris GR models, becoming a popular upgrade among enthusiasts. However, as the tuning potential for the Yaris GR has evolved, we recognised the need for a more substantial intercooler package. This would support significantly higher power levels, cater to heavily tuned cars, and future-proof them for ongoing tuning developments.

The Solution

We’ve now designed the largest possible intercooler that fits the available space behind the bumper. This new design incorporates a stepped core that rises up behind the entire front grille, maximising airflow. Leveraging our expertise in developing intercooler kits with integrated crash bar designs, we CNC machined billet brackets to ensure a secure, bolt-in fit.

The Stage 3 intercooler kit offers a 143% increase in overall capacity compared to the OEM intercooler, and 54% larger than our Stage 1 kit, with a 115% increase in frontal area compared to the original (78% larger than Stage 1). These improvements make the most of available airflow for enhanced cooling.

With high-flow, moulded one-piece cast end tanks, the intercooler ensures efficient flow, while the enlarged 60mm inlet and matching outlet work together for optimum performance. The Stage 3 intercooler outperforms both the original and Stage 1 intercoolers in terms of efficiency and volume.

Available in a high-quality powder-coated black finish, the kit is a direct replacement and includes Pro Hoses silicone connectors to fit the original boost pipes. Alternatively, we offer a big boost pipe kit for even greater performance. The kit also comes with all necessary fixtures, fittings, and detailed instructions for a hassle-free installation.

The Testing

In extensive track testing at Snetterton Circuit in the UK, we compared the performance of the Stage 1 and Stage 3 intercoolers on our 420bhp AIRTEC Motorsport development car.

Stage 1 began to struggle with maintaining consistent charge temperatures during sustained high boost, with a 15-degree fluctuation during a hot lap. However, with the Stage 3 intercooler installed, temperatures remained far more consistent, showing a 5-degree range even under extreme conditions.

Both intercoolers displayed over 90% efficiency, reducing charge air temperatures by more than 200 degrees, but the Stage 3 intercooler performed more reliably, sustaining lower temperatures for longer, making it the perfect choice for high-performance, heavily tuned vehicles.
