Rear Silencers

Rear exhaust silencers, are the last piece of the exhaust system just before the tail pipe. There will be at least one muffler on every vehicle, and they are designed to reduce and adjust the noise of the exhaust system by reducing the sound waves coming out of an exhaust, without restricting the flow of exhaust gases. While you may personally enjoy the sound of a loud exhaust, there are strict rules on the amount of noise that your car can make. There are even sound restrictions for racing cars - either set by the track or the sport governing body.

Car silencers work in two ways. They restrict gases that flow through the exhaust so that they move quickly out of the tailpipe. Soundwaves are also absorbed and their strength reduced when the exhaust gas enters a soft material, such as fibreglass. Other sound waves can be bounced off the silencers surfaces and reflected into each other to cancel each other out.
